Wait! Wait!!!! (Finally) A Musical Monday?!

Ack!!!! Could it be?! I finally have a reason to post a Musical Monday?

I gave up on this well-intentioned weekly post back in October, oh man, SEPTEMBER! but I was super excited about finding this gem at the library this weekend.

I introduced Martin Luther King Jr. today and used the book to elaborate. I haven't put on a show for my kiddos in a while and when I sung the text to them I had them HOOKED. When we finished they went on and on about how we should be kind to one another and be thankful that we can be a family at school and what a hero Dr. King is and UGH!!!! Then they sang/hummed/made up their own songs about the beauty of differences during free choice centers. It was wonderful.

Now if you're not up for singing yourself there's always the video:

And if you're like me and want to get your kiddos away from staring at a screen and staring at EACH OTHER, you could always download the song by pasting the YouTube url in KeepVid.

I hope we can practice the song enough to sing to our 5th grade buddies on Friday! :)

My first "Currently!"

I've always thought these linky parties were cute... but feared I was too boring to post one myself...

BUT WHO CARES!

I want that super-cool pencil sharpener!

Miss Farley is giving away this neato sharpener here! But first grant me the small satisfaction that my "Currently" matters! ;)

Thank you! You're more than welcome to come on over to use the sharpener if I win it! Hehe! :)

Breathe...

Love this!

So I barely gave 2012 a thought, just another year, but when I saw Herding Kats in Kindergarten's post about a One Little Word resolution I got to thinking. I wanted it to just come to me, and over a rushed mouthful of raspberries I thought, I really should breathe when I eat... HA! isn't that a result of 30 20 15 minute lunches!

My OLW is really appropriate though, not just for when I'm snacking. :)
When I checked in with my doctor a week after surgery he wanted to see me bend my knee. My muscles and my mind clearly resisted the movement after keeping my leg straight for so long. He laughed at me and said, "BREATHE, girl!" and sure enough I could bend it a full 90 degrees!
I do tend to tighten up around all kinds of stress- physical, mental, and emotional... My OLW will remind me to get back up to the "driver's seat" of my brain instead of my more emotional or survival state. This is nothing new, I heard it over and over during various trainings, but a daily mantra would help me throughout the year. :)

On another note, some thanks need to be given!
